Our last night in Costa Rica, we stayed in San Jose, the capital, at the Hotel Don Carlos. The hotel is centrally located, yet small and quite charming. I loved how filled with light and art it was!

Wrought-iron railings galore.

Detail of a hammered copper artwork.

On the wall outside my room...looks like a Putamayo record label.
Elaborate tiled fountain in the central courtyard.
"The Conversation" in the breakfast courtyard.

Beautifully-painted old cart wheels, re-purposed as tables.
The fountain in the breakfast courtyard.
Interesting use for pre-Columbian statue.
Pre-Columbian figure and mask, in the lobby area.

Also in the lobby area, a statue I affectionately dubbed "Big Guy, Little Guy."

Interior stained-glass windows.

Two examples of tile art found throughout the hotel.

And a close-up for Stefanie!
